Democratic Club Office Open For Business!!

by: MikeySanchez

Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 21:58:23 PM EDT

( - promoted by AikoAdam)

The South Haven Area Democratic Club has opened their office in Town.  It is located on the first floor corner room of the Nichols Hotel accross the street from the Theatre.  We gathered there Tuesday night and met with the first representative from a National campaign ever to come to Van Buren County!  Zack Smith from the Obama Campaign came in and gave a pep talk about organizing ourselves to get Van Buren County/South Haven voters out in record numbers this election. The South Haven Democrats surprised everyone years ago when they first opened an office in what was considered "Republican" territory.  They have continued to gather support over the years participating in Parades and campaigns for Governor Granholm and Senator Stabenow in '06 and for John Kerry in '04.  They have helped build the party enough that others have started to take notice.  This Saturday the 23rd of August will be our first Canvassing effort of the season with 2 sessions starting at 11AM and 2PM.  Come on out and meet other supporters of our candidates and help us organize!

Van Buren Democrats Launch Website

by: philgoblue

Tue May 20, 2008 at 13:55:13 PM EDT

The Van Buren County Democratic Party has launched its website!  Congratulations and welcome!

It's a very simple, basic website that gets all the information needed across and therefore is a model for the smaller county parties that it's relatively easy and possible to get a website up that can draw in new members and inform current members.

Most importantly, there is a "Events" page that can be updated and tells folks when and where the County Party meetings are, as well as other events for candidates and local clubs.  Also, we're trying to win elections, here so they have a "Candidates" section with links to their local campaigns.  There are sections to encourage people to get active -- "How Can Help?" urges folks to become Precinct Captains; a "Links" page to the Parties in the surrounding counties, the VBCDP's website, and ... hey ... us (thanks); and a "Contact Us" section with an email address.  All in all, it's simple and basic, but it get's the job done -- if people google "Van Buren County Democratic Party" it's the 6th link down and they can find out how to get to a meeting, get links to Democratic candidates, and at least some contact information.

So, congrats VNCDP Web Master, whoever you are.

The following counties should strongly consider following suit and getting online:  Barry, Cass, Lake, Leelanau, Mason, Newaygo, Oceana, St. Joseph, and Wexford.

I believe Lisa has a "How County Parties and Candidates Can Set Up Webpages" diary in the works, it should be a huge help.  In the meantime, my suggestion: find a teenager and go to godaddy.com.
